What are the symptoms of an Underactive Thyroid ?

Some of us have trouble making it through the day with our busy schedules. This could be a sign of an underactive thyroid. Some other symptoms in adults which may indicate an underactive thyroid may include:

·         Fatigue or weakness

·         Weight gain

·         Headaches

·         Depression

·         Memory loss and poor concentration

·         Loss of sex drive

·         Feeling cold when others don’t

·         Constipation

·         Dry skin

·         Thinning hair of hair loss

·         Insomnia

·         Infertility

·         Severe menopause or PMS symptoms

These symptoms could be an indication of other unresolved health conditions. To determine if in fact you are suffering from sub-clinical hypothyroidism (may not present on lab tests), talk to your doctor about these and other symptoms that may be nutritionally related,

For healthy optimal thyroid function several minerals are needed daily.

Iodine, Iron, Zinc, Copper and Selenium

For the thyroid to function, these essential trace minerals need to be supplied on a daily basis. Numerous studies have shown that deficiencies in iodine, zinc, iron, copper and selenium can impair thyroid function.

Let’s face it our busy schedules and not taking the time to eat the right foods contribute to non-optimal thyroid function. Even eating a balanced diet may not be enough to improve thyroid function. Taking a whole food supplement supplies you with all the essential daily nutrients. Some of us may even need a more advanced type of support if long term deficiencies are present. It’s best to get your thyroid evaluated via lab and nutritional assessment testing. Contact the office for more details.
